چکیده
Abstract Novel considerations are presented on the physics, apparatus and accelerator designs for a future, luminous, energy frontier electron-hadron ( eh ) scattering experiment at LHC in thirties which key physics topics their relation to hadron-hadron HL-LHC programme discussed. Demands derived set by these design of LHeC detector, corresponding update is described. Optimisations design, especially interaction region (IR), presented. Initial indicate that common IR possible be built alternately could serve hh collisions while other experiments would stay either condition. Deep Inelastic Electron-Nucleon Scattering at the LHC∗
The physics, and a design, of a Large Hadron Electron Collider (LHeC) are sketched. With high luminosity, 10cms, and high energy, √ s = 1.4TeV, such a collider can be built in which a 70GeV electron (positron) beam in the LHC tunnel is in collision with one of the LHC hadron beams and which operates simultaneously with the LHC. The LHeC makes possible deep-inelastic lepton-hadron (ep, eD and eA...

متن کاملThe Totem Experiment at the Lhc
In order to fulfil its physics programme the TOTEM experiment1 has to cope with the challenge of triggering and recording events in the very forward region with a good acceptance for particles produced at very small angles with respect to the beam. The evaluation of the total cross section with an error down to 1÷2% will in particular require the simultaneous measurement of the elastic scatteri...
متن کاملThe CMS experiment at the CERN LHC
The Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detector is described. The detector operates at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. It was conceived to study proton-proton (and leadlead) collisions at a centre-of-mass energy of 14 TeV (5.5 TeV nucleon-nucleon) and at luminosities up to 1034 cm−2s−1 (1027 cm−2s−1). At the core of the CMS detector sits a high-magneticfield and large-bore superconducting sol...
